Coming
Home by Gareth Calway cover design by Marion Catlin
,
1991, paperback,70 pages,£4.95
This book ambitiously sets out to address the age old questions:
"Who am I? Where do I come from? Where am I going?" It
is a poetic account of a momentous journey, the ascent of the soul
through creation and human history towards its spiritual destination.
Despite its weighty content, it is written in a clear, accessible
style, using a variety of poetic forms, from ballad, sonnet, villanelle
and Persian ghazal to free verse. The first section, Evolution,
starts with a comet and arrives at the human being. The historical
section, Ghosts, starts with a Roman centurion at the time of Jesus,
to end with a Jewess in Nazi times. And the last section is the
mystical journey towards God, our home.
