Icarus
Hugh Lupton & Daniel Morden
After their acclaimed performances of Homer’s Iliad and Odyssey, and Ovid’s Metamorphoses, the celebrated duo explore some of the most gripping Greek myths and their striking relevance to contemporary issues: Prometheus’ theft of fire, Pandora’s Box, the Minotaur’s labyrinth and the flight of Icarus and his father. From these ancient tales the central question of our times emerges: “Just because we can, does it mean that we should?”

Entertaining Mr. Handel
A Baroque Cabaret of recorder sonatas, harpsichord and harp solos and choreography from John Weavers’ Passions and Affections
Evelyn Nallen, recorder David Gordon, harpsichord, Frances Kelly, harp, and actors Madeleine Forrester and Martin Woodruff
Handel did not write enough sonatas for the appetite of today’s recorder player, so this inventive group offers a new recipe for gourmets. “First peel and core some favourite melodies from Handel’s operas and mix thoroughly. Then follow Kirnberger’s instruction of “tossing off your own sonatas” by re-writing the top line and preserving the bass. Add a gentle baroque harp and some drama(tics), top it off with improvisation alla Mr. Handel himself, and enjoy!”
